New Documents, Old Documents - They Could All be Electronic Documents
Since 2003 the Legislative Reference Library has been saving electronic copies of most state documents. Documents from agency Websites have been saved into an electronic archive, and we've scanned those we've only been able to get in print. Why? More documents become easily available, and we ensure the continued existence of some that may disappear from state servers. Links to the reports are available through the Library's catalog.
Many current state issues have a long history and have been frequently studied. The Library holds decades of legislative and state agency reports. When an old report becomes suddenly new and hot, we've scanned it and linked it to the catalog. For example, when Governor Pawlenty talked about the CORE Reports (the Minnesota Commission on Reform and Efficiency), our copies became instantly crucial. We scanned them so anyone could read them. Several people have requested the mid-nineties Report of the Growe Commission on Electoral Reform - that's in electronic format now, too.
When you encounter that perfect commission report or study and would like to share it with colleagues or use it in a committee hearing, let us know. We'll scan it and provide the URL to share.
