Minnesota State Fair
Summer’s end is approaching which means it is almost time for the iconic Minnesota State Fair. Ahead of this year’s fair, take a look back at last year's State Fair, dubbed the Great Minnesota Get-Back-Together, in the 2021 State Fair’s annual report. Last year, the fair had a $300 million economic impact in the Twin Cities, the Cattle Barn celebrated its 100th anniversary, and the fair offered its first-ever Crop Art to-go competition. Attendance was lower last year than in previous years, but the most attended date was Saturday, September 4th (153,953). Another fascinating section in this report is the entertainment contracts, where you can look up how much the grandstand entertainers make performing. The Library has the State Fair annual reports available online from 2002-present.
The House and Senate opinion polls are another State Fair favorite. Since at least 1988, the public has been able to take an opinion poll at the Minnesota Legislature House Information and Senate Information booths. For many, taking the polls is a State Fair tradition. You can find out the issues of the day in past years by reading the Library’s archived collection of House polls (1993-present) and Senate polls (1988-present).
