A Database of Minnesota Legislators
The Legislative Reference Library recently unveiled a database containing information on every individual who has served in the Minnesota Legislature since territorial times. The Minnesota Legislators Past & Present Database provides brief biographical information for each legislator. (http://www.leg.state.mn.us/legdb/index.asp)
A variety of interesting searches are possible. Use the "county" search to find the names of everyone who has represented a particular county. Use the "education" search option to find all legislators who attended a specific school. The "occupations" search lists all members who have worked in a particular profession such as teaching, agriculture, or health care.
While each legislator is represented, this database remains a work in progress and is by no means complete. Records for current members include pictures and may link to audio or video clips, while the records of members who served long ago often have very little data. Much information remains to be entered. We have already started hearing from people who have information to contribute.
