GOVERNOR PAWLENTY ORDERS U.S. AND STATE FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF IN HONOR OF MARINE MASTER SGT. BRETT E. ANGUS -- December 1, 2005
 

Saint Paul - Governor Tim Pawlenty today ordered that all U.S. and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at the Capitol Complex, including state buildings, monuments and grounds in proximity to and including the Minnesota State Capitol, from sunrise until sunset, on Friday, December 2, 2005, in honor and remembrance of Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus.

The following is the text of the Governor's official proclamation:

Whereas:          Marine Master Sgt. Brett E. Angus was committed to serving his country and did so honorably for over twenty years, during which he received numerous medals including three Navy Meritorious Unit Commendations and six Marine Corps Good Conduct medals; and

Whereas:          Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He joined the U.S. Marines shortly after graduating high school in 1982.  On June 1, 2005, he was promoted to master sergeant.  He was a member of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, First Marine Expeditionary Force and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California; and

Whereas:          While serving his second deployment, Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus died a hero near Camp Taqaddum, Iraq, on Saturday, November 26, 2005, while protecting his country and fighting for freedom; and

Whereas:          Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus is survived by his beloved wife, Masami; sister, JoLynn Kari (Chris Alexander); father, Russell; stepfather, Terry Kari; grandfather, Dale "Grampy" Peterson; grandparents, Vera and Earl Christy; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other family and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Cheryl Kari; and

Whereas:          A Memorial service for Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2005, at J.S. Klecatsky and Sons Funeral Home in Eagan, Minnesota; and

Whereas:          The State of Minnesota thanks the family of Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus for his dedicated service to the people of this country and wants the family to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM PAWLENTY, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby order all U.S. and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at the Capitol Complex, including state buildings, monuments and grounds in proximity to and including the Minnesota State Capitol, from sunrise until sunset, on Friday, December 2, 2005, in honor and remembrance of Marine Master Sergeant Brett E. Angus.
