Whereas: On Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at 6:05 p.m., the Interstate 35W bridge spanning the Mississippi River collapsed in Minneapolis; and
Whereas: The spirit of Minnesota was evident in the moments after the tragedy and remains strong today as rescue workers, emergency responders and courageous citizens chose to run towards the danger to assist those in need; and
Whereas: The hearts and prayers of all Minnesotans go out to the families of those who lost their lives and to the families who still have loved ones missing in this tragedy. We pray for the recovery of the injured and ask all Minnesotans to help comfort the families and friends of the victims who are suffering unimaginable pain.
Now, Therefore, I, Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby order all U.S. flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at the Capitol Complex, including state buildings, monuments, and grounds in proximity to and including the Minnesota State Capitol, and encourage others to do the same across the state of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in honor and remembrance of the I-35 bridge collapse.
