GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS NINE TO THE MINNESOTA BOARD ON AGING -- October 29, 2003
 

Saint Paul -- Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Antoinette Baker, Sharon Bring, Richard Jackson, David Janovy, Mary Koep, Grace Lee, Ann Meissner, Jeanette Metz, and Julie Storm to the Minnesota Board on Aging. Governor Pawlenty also appointed Jeanette Metz as the Chairperson of the Board.

Jeanette Metz, of Mound, retired in 1999 as Administrative Director of Community Services for Older Adults at the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation in St. Paul. She received a B.A. degree from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul. Metz is reappointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. This will be her second term on the board. Metz is also appointed as the chairperson of the board.

Antoinette Baker, of Woodbury, served as Executive Director of the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging until 2002. She received a B.A. degree from Whittier College in Whittier, California. Baker is appointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. She replaces Ken Moritz as a member of the board.

Sharon Bring, of Strandquist, currently serves as a Marshall County Commissioner. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Lutheran Social Services Board which serves meals to seniors in Marshall County. Bring is appointed as an at-large member for a partial term ending January 5, 2004. She replaces Marjorie Jamieson on the board.

Richard Jackson, of Princeton, is a former Mille Lacs County Commissioner. He also previously served on the Mille Lacs County Health Board and Social Services Board. Jackson is reappointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. This is his second term on the board.

David Janovy, of Mankato, is Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Gerontology at Minnesota State University—Mankato. He received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Nebraska. Janovy is reappointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. This is his second term on the board.

Mary Koep, of Brainerd, currently serves as a member of the Brainerd City Council. She is a former Crow Wing County Commissioner. She also previously served as two-term member of the Board on Aging. Koep is appointed as an at-large member for a partial term ending January 3, 2005. She replaces Robert Waterman on the board.

Grace Lee, of Minneapolis, is the founder of the Korean Service Center in Minneapolis. She also serves as a Commissioner on the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority. Lee received M.S.W. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Minnesota. She is appointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. She replaces Ellen Johnson on the board.

Ann Meissner, of St. Paul, currently works as a licensed psychologist in private practice. She previously worked as an adjunct professor at St. Mary's University in Minneapolis. Meissner received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin. She is appointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. She replaces Dan Segura on the board.

Julie Storm, of Mankato, is Community Sales and Outreach Representative for Alterra Sterling House, an assisted living residence in Mankato. She also previously served as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1999-2000. Storm is appointed as an at-large member for a four-year term ending January 1, 2007. She replaces Elaine White on the board.

The Minnesota Board on Aging was established in 1956 to plan for and meet the needs of Minnesota's seniors. The board administers more than $30 million in federal and state grants every year. The board consists of 25 members appointed by the Governor.
