GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS THREE TO THE MINNESOTA VETERANS HOMES BOARD -- May 22, 2003
 

Saint Paul -- Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointments of Lawrence Greenberg and Dan Williams to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Veterans Homes. Governor Pawlenty also named current board member Dr. Frank Budd chairman of the board.

Frank Budd, of Duluth, retired as an orthopaedic surgeon in 1997. A physician since 1960, Budd is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He completed a fellowship in reconstructive hip and knee surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He served on active duty as a surgeon in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1971, including duty in Vietnam from 1968-69. He also served in the Naval Reserve from 1974-1992, retiring as a Captain. Budd received a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Biology and Chemistry from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a current member of the board. Budd will continue to serve his current term, which expires on January 2, 2006. He replaces Wayne Sletten as the chairman of the board.

Lawrence Greenberg, of St. Louis Park, is a retired Certified Public Accountant. He was a Partner at Coopers Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) until his retirement in 1987. Since 1987, he has worked as the president of a computer manufacturing company, as vice president and part owner of a community bank, and as a management and financial consultant. He served as a member of the state's Board of Accountancy from 1986-94, including chairman of the board from 1993-94. He also served as a member of the state's Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience & Interior Design from 1994-2002. He served in the U.S. Navy on active duty from 1944-46. Greenberg received a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota. He is appointed to a four-year term that expires on January 1, 2007. He replaces Wayne Sletten as a public member on the board.

Dan Williams, of Vadnais Heights, has been President and CEO of Masters, Williams and Associates, an information technology consulting firm, since 2002. From 2001-02, he was North American Vice President at ASP Consulting, an international consulting firm headquartered in Vienna, Austria. He is also an ordained minister and the founder of Grace Resurrection Ministries. In 2003, President George W. Bush appointed Williams to the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Institute of Public Health. Williams is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Ramsey Action Programs (RAP), and had served as chairman of their operations committee. He served in the U.S. Navy on active duty from 1971-74. He attended Minneapolis Community and Technical College, Mankato State University, and Augsburg College with a major in Management Information Systems. Williams is appointed to a four-year term that expires on January 1, 2007. He replaces George Ross as a public member on the board.

The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Veterans Homes oversees management of Minnesota's five state-run veterans homes. The homes are located in Minneapolis, Hastings, Silver Bay, Luverne, and Fergus Falls. The Homes provide over 900 beds to qualifying veterans and their spouses. The board is made up of nine members appointed by the Governor, and up to three ex-officio members. The board's website is www.mvh.state.mn.us.
