Governor's Advisory Committee on Gambling

Function: Advise the governor on comprehensive state policy development for all gambling in Minnesota, on interagency cooperation, and on information dissemination. The Committee shall recommend to the Governor an improved structure for the regulation and control of gambling.
History:
Early in 1991, Minnesota legislators eliminated the Department of Gaming which they had created just two years prior. Governor Carlson opposed the dismantling saying legalized gambling was too big and important an agency to be left to a divided system of regulation shared by six state agencies. Reestablishment of a Department of Gaming is one idea the Advisory Committee on Gambling will consider.

Governor's designees from the Gambling Control Board, Lottery Board, Racing Commission; governor's Indian gaming designee; commissioner of public safety; commissioner of revenue; and a designee of the U.S. attorney.
