Metropolitan Waste Management Advisory Council

Function:

The Council helps the Metropolitan Council develop long-range plans for the reuse or disposal of solid and hazardous waste; reviews county solid waste plans, county annual reports on landfills and waste abatement, and permit applications for new disposal facilities; and advises the council on sewage sludge management, landfill siting, and other metropolitan waste management issues.

History:

The advisory committee expires June 30, 1997 per Minn. Stat. 15.059 Subd. 5 as revised by Laws of 1993.

Membership:

In 1996, there were 15 members.
The committee shall consist of one-third citizen representatives, one-third representatives from metropolitan counties and municipalities, and one-third representatives from private waste management firms. A representative from the pollution control agency and one from the Minnesota health department shall serve as ex officio members of the committee.
