Propose standards for prevention of accidents in all places of employment in Minnesota. Advises Dept of Labor and Industry on administration of the state Occupational Safety and Health Act.

History:

The Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Board was created in 1973 under the statutory authority of Minnesota Statutes 182.656 to advise the department in carrying out the purposes of M.S. 182 and other Occupational Safety and Health Administration statutes.

In 1975 Minn. Laws Chap. 271 Sec. 3 Subpart (28) changed the name of the occupational safety and health advisory board to the occupational safety and health advisory council.

In 1984 the commissioner of labor and industry replaced the governor as appointing authority.

The Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Council was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for keeping the council.

Membership:

12 members (3 representing management, 3 representing labor, 3 representing occupational safety and health professions, 3 representing general public; commissioners of labor and industry and health, ex officio); appointed by commissioner of labor and industry; terms governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059; compensation governed by Minn. Stat. 15.059.
