He ran unsuccessfully as the Republican party endorsed candidate for Minnesota Lieutenant Governor in the 1956 election.

He died of congestive heart failure at Beltrami Nursing Home in Bemidji, Minnesota. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Bemidji, Minnesota.
