ST. PAUL, MN – Honoring the legacy of music legend and lifelong Minnesotan Prince Rogers Nelson, who passed away two years ago, on April 21, 2016, Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed Saturday, April 21, 2018, to be “Prince Day” in the State of Minnesota.

“Prince and his phenomenal talents led an era of music and showcased Minnesota to the world,” said Governor Dayton. “This day, we honor a magnificent artist, celebrate his great legacy, and thank him for always making Minnesota his home.”

In addition, the Interstate 35W Bridge in Minneapolis will be lit purple on Friday and Saturday night, in recognition of Prince’s passing and the memorial celebrations taking place throughout the city this weekend.

A global star beloved by millions, the loss of Prince is felt personally by many Minnesotans due to his countless contributions in the arts, culture, and service to his community. Governor Dayton encourages Minnesotans across the state to wear purple on Prince Day in honor of the Purple One’s enduring legacy.
