Commission on Judicial Selection Recommends Seventh Judicial District Candidates to Governor Dayton

ST. PAUL, MN – The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today it is recommending four candidates to Governor Mark Dayton for consideration to fill the vacancies in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. The vacancies were created upon the retirement of the Honorable Vicki E. Landwehr and the creation of a new district court judgeship in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District by order of the Minnesota Supreme Court.  Judge Landwehr’s seat will be chambered at Milaca in Mille Lacs County and the new judgeship seat will be chambered at Saint Cloud in Stearns County.
 
Judge Amy Chantry: The Honorable Amy Chantry is a contract Administrative Law Judge in the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings, a solo practitioner at the Law Office of Amy Jo Chantry, and an attorney at St. Cloud State University Student Legal Services. Previously, she was an associate at Eller Law Office, an Assistant Public Defender in Benton and Stearns Counties, and a judicial law clerk to the Honorable David R. Battey. Judge Chantry volunteers at high school mock trial tournaments and for various student activities at Sauk Rapids Rice Middle School and High School.
 
Douglas Clark: Mr. Clark is an attorney at Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance, where he primarily handles cases in housing law, criminal issues, government benefits, and social security. Previously, he was an attorney and supervising attorney in the St. Cloud Office of Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance and an attorney at Community Legal Services in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Clark has served as a member of the St. Cloud Civil Service Board, the St. Cloud Library Board, and Minnesota Housing Partnership. He was also a member and former Chair of Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity.
 
Matthew Quinn: Mr. Quinn is the Chief Deputy Stearns County Attorney, where he handles cases related to data practices, firearms, and advises and trains law enforcement. Previously, he was an adjunct professor of aviation law at St. Cloud State University, First Assistant Mille Lacs County Attorney, and an associate attorney at Barna, Guzy & Steffen. Mr. Quinn is a volunteer at Joy Christian Center and a member of the Central Minnesota Child Advocacy Center Administrative Board, Minnesota Children’s Alliance Public Policy Committee, and the Stearns County Municipal League.
 
Shan Wang: Mr. Wang is the Assistant Chief of the Criminal Division in the Stearns County Attorney’s Office, where he supervises the adult criminal division. Previously, he was an Assistant Stearns County Attorney and a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Regina M. Chu. Mr. Wang is the President of the St. Cloud Public Library Board of Trustees, serves on the Board of Directors of the Stearns-Benton Bar Association, is a member of the Minnesota Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and is the past president of the John E. Simonett American Inn of Court.
 
Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District consists of Becker, Benton, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena Counties.
 
An announcement of the appointments will be made following an interview process over the next few weeks.
