ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Governor Mark Dayton issued the following statement regarding the United States Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Trump’s travel ban on predominantly Muslim countries.
“I am appalled, although not surprised, by the US Supreme Court's decision to uphold President Trump's travel ban that targets countries with predominantly Muslim citizenry. It is incredible that the narrow, five-person majority, could pretend the President's smears against lawful Muslim citizens and innocent victims of world atrocities were not the motivating forces behind his ban.
“Elections have lasting consequences; and, unfortunately, the 2016 election paved the way for a reactionary US Supreme Court that will condone America's departure from the principles upon which our country was founded. Those bedrock principles absolutely prohibit discrimination based upon religious beliefs.”
