Governor’s Residence Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary with Public Tours

5/30/2012 10:14:43 AM

In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Minnesota Governor's Residence, the Governor's Residence will host six public tours during the summer months in June, July and August. The tour dates are Tuesdays, June 5 and 19, July 10 and 24, and August 7 and 21. Space will be limited to twenty guests per tour, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., and reservations are required.

The interior tours will cover the first floor of the residence, documenting both the original, historic features of the residence as well as the more modern additions. The tours will be guided by docents from the Women's Organization of the Minnesota Historical Society. Docents will also be located throughout the grounds and gardens of the Governor's Residence to provide information about historic lawn games, sustainable agriculture, and other horticulture features on the estate. There will be family friendly activities and a chance to visit the vegetable gardens of the residence.

The 100th Anniversary of the Minnesota Governor's Residence is being co-sponsored by the Governor's Residence Council and the 1006 Summit Avenue Society. The yearlong celebration will also feature special events, commemorative projects, and signature initiatives to extend well beyond the anniversary.

Reservations are required for interior tours of the residence. To schedule a reservation, or for more information on summer tours, visit http://www.admin.state.mn.us/govres/tours.jsp
