The Governor's proclamation recognizes McCartney for his contributions to music in a career spanning nearly six decades and celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the first Beatles concert in Minnesota.

McCartney's first performance in Minnesota was in 1965 with the Beatles at Met Stadium in Bloomington. He has since made several solo appearances in the state, and with this most recent concert at Target Field, will have performed in every Minnesota Twins baseball stadium.

Sir Paul McCartney is credited with writing or co-writing 32 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and is widely recognized as being one of the world's top songwriters of the 20th and 21st Centuries. His awards and accolades include knighthood in the United Kingdom and being twice-inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As a member of the Beatles, McCartney been awarded 10 Grammys, an Academy Award for Best Original Score, and was included in Time Magazine's compilation of the Twentieth Century's 100 Most Influential People.
