10/22/2015 10:14:43 AM

ST. PAUL, MN - In honor and remembrance of Deputy Steven Sandberg, who was killed in the line of duty on Sunday, October 18, 2015, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Friday, October 23, 2015.

Deputy Steven Sandberg honorably served the people of Aitkin County for twenty-four years as a member of the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, and courageously volunteered as a firefighter with the Aitkin Fire Department for seventeen years. Deputy Sandberg was regarded as a good neighbor and an active member of his church, and he will be missed by his family, colleagues, and friends.

The State of Minnesota, with its deepest gratitude, recognizes Deputy Sandberg for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow citizens of Minnesota. The thoughts and prayers of Minnesotans are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A celebration of Steven Sandberg's life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Aitkin High School in Aitkin, Minnesota.
