Governor Dayton orders flags flown at half-staff in honor of Corporal James Norman Sund

In honor and remembrance of Corporal James Norman Sund, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all U.S. flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.

Corporal Sund was born on March 14, 1923 and raised in Highlanding Township, Minnesota. He went on to serve in the United States Army as a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division in the Korean War. Corporal Sund died a hero at twenty-eight years of age on April 24, 1951, in a North Korean Prisoner of War Camp after going Missing in Action on February 12, 1951 near Wonju, South Korea. His remains were recovered by the United States in 1992 and recently identified through DNA. Corporal Sund will receive a memorial with full military honors on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in Goodridge, Minnesota.

At the direction of the Governor, Minnesota flies it's flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota military personnel killed in the line of duty, on the day of interment, including those who are returned to their families long after their service.
