Largest Veterans Career Fair in Minnesota Will Be Held July 9

7/7/2014 10:14:43 AM

Free event will feature 140 Minnesota employers

ST. PAUL - The 2014 Minnesota Veterans Career Fair, the largest event in the state for military veterans who are looking for work, will be held in Brooklyn Center on Wednesday, July 9. Governor Mark Dayton will address employers and veterans in attendance.

The free event, sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, 6155 Earle Brown Drive. All current and former members of the U.S. military are welcome.

More than 140 Minnesota employers with job openings are scheduled to participate.

"Veterans are committed, creative and innovative in their pursuit of success, and Minnesota employers know that they are valuable members of the workforce," said DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben. "The annual Minnesota Veterans Career Fair is the largest career fair for veterans in the state, and is just one way we are working to reemploy our servicemen and women in meaningful careers."

New to this year's career fair, DEED and MACV will partner in a program called Suits for Soldiers to provide donated interview suits for participants. A limited number of suits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the event.

Other highlights of the career fair include:

  • Employers will speak with veterans about current job openings and conduct interviews on site for open positions.
  • College representatives will discuss educational and training options.
  • Service providers will assist with employment-related needs, as well as provide information and referrals to nonwork-related services for veterans.
  • Workshops will be offered on job search techniques and starting a business.
