Notice is hereby given of a special meeting of The Governor’s Council on Law Enforcement and Community Relations BOARD Meeting to be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at St Paul College, 235 Marshall Avenue, St Paul, Minnesota, for the following purposes:
1. Advise the Governor, Legislators, and other policy makers and stakeholders about the immediate actions, which can be taken in Minnesota to create and restore trust between communities and their law enforcement agencies, so that all community members are invested in maintaining public safety in an atmosphere of mutual respect;
2. Focus on law enforcement and community relations through a lens of procedural and social justice that may impact areas, including, but not limited to:
a. sentencing reform;
b. prosecutorial discretion;
c. law enforcement workforce;
d. law enforcement recruiting and retention;
e. law enforcement training;
f. and community health and wellness
3. Identify, publish, and promote information about the implementation of the best practices in community and law enforcement relations; and also facilitate information sharing among local, state, and federal departments and jurisdictions;
4. Identify, publish, and promote information about the resources needed for statewide access to training and officer safety;
5. Identify, publish, and promote information about how communities and law enforcement agencies can positively engage each other; and
6. Design and implement specific policy proposals and actions that can be taken by the executive and legislative branches of state government to enhance law enforcement and community safety.
