Governor Mark Dayton Joins St. David’s Center in Minnetonka for Construction Kick-Off Ceremony

4/30/2015 10:14:43 AM

Bonding bill signed by the Governor in 2014 included $3.75 million for the expansion

ST. PAUL, MN - Today in Minnetonka, Governor Mark Dayton was joined by state and local officials in breaking ground on the $13.7 million expansion of the St. David's Center for Child and Family Development. For more than 50 years, St. David's Center has provided a wide spectrum of services to families and children throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Thanks to the $3.75 million included in 2014 Jobs Bill signed by Governor Dayton, St. David's Center is adding 6,800 square feet and renovating existing space to create a state-of-the-art early education intervention and treatment and training center.

The St. David's Center expansion project, which is expected to be complete in early 2016, will redesign and expand early childhood education classrooms, preschool mental health day treatment classrooms, pediatric rehab treatment space, and a children's mental health clinic. As part of the expansion, St. David's Center also is adding a 2.5-acre Department of Natural Resources certified school forest for a new natural playground and educational area.

This year, Governor Dayton has proposed a Jobs Bill that would invest $842 million in infrastructure projects statewide, creating more than 23,900 Minnesota jobs. This legislation would help address many of the state's critical infrastructure needs, while strengthening Minnesota's economy and putting thousands of people to work.

The Governor's 2015 Jobs Bill includes critical infrastructure projects distributed all across Minnesota. The bill balances the needs of the state, with 43 percent of the projects are in Greater Minnesota, 38 percent in the Twin Cities Area, and 19 percent of the projects with statewide impacts. Governor Dayton's Jobs Bill also is designed to make state resources go farther, by leveraging more than $420 million in private, local, and federal dollars.
