ST. PAUL, MN – On November 19, 2016, Lakeville Motor Express terminated all of its employees, claiming it had no cash to pay employee paychecks or vendors. However, the company continues to effectively operate under a new name, Finish Line Express, with the same management and trucks. In response, the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry has initiated an investigation.
“Right before Thanksgiving, over 90 Minnesotans working for Lakeville Motor Express found out the company was closing its doors, and they wouldn't be getting their final paycheck. This is called wage theft, and it's the same thing as stealing. These families earned their wages fair and square, it’s wrong not to pay them, and we won't tolerate it.
“The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry has launched an investigation and will make sure that Lakeville Motor Express follows the law, including paying the back wages and benefits they owe to former employees.
“I urge any Minnesotan who believes they have been the victim of wage theft to contact us. Everyone deserves to get paid for their work.”
