Governor Dayton Proclaims "Minnesota Lynx Day"

ST. PAUL, MN - This morning at the Governor's Residence in St. Paul, Governor Mark Dayton hosted a celebration breakfast reception for the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx recently won the WNBA Championship for the second time in three years. Team members had the opportunity to visit with Governor Dayton and other elected officials, and were congratulated for their outstanding championship season. /governor/assets/20131014_gmd_lynx_team_tcm1055-115349.jpgA photo from this morning’s reception is attached.

Last Thursday, the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Atlanta Dream by a score of 86 to 77 to win the WNBA Championship. The Lynx swept the Atlanta Dream three games to zero in the championship series. The team completed the regular season with the best record in the WNBA for the third consecutive year - a 26-8 record. They were undefeated in the postseason with a 7-0 record.

To recognize the outstanding achievements of the Minnesota Lynx, Governor Dayton has declared today, Monday, October 14, 2013, as "Minnesota Lynx Day" in Minnesota. The Governor's /governor/assets/20131014_MN_Lynx_Day_tcm1055-115350.pdfproclamation is attached. It reads, in full:

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Lynx have entertained and inspired Minnesotans of all ages; and

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Lynx laid claim to the best record in the WNBA in 2013 by finishing 26-8, which marks the third straight year that the Lynx have had the best season in the league; and

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Lynx produced four WNBA All-Stars, including Minnesotan, Lindsay Whalen, and the 2013 WNBA Finals' Most Valuable Player, Maya Moore; and

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Lynx serve as role models for young girls and boys all around the State of Minnesota and the nation; and

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Lynx are only the second team ever to go undefeated in the postseason; and

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Lynx, with their 86-77 victory over the Atlanta Dream in Game 3 of the 2013 WNBA Finals, have brought a WNBA World Championship to Minnesota for an incredible second time in three years.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARK DAYTON, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Monday, October 14, 2013, as: MINNESOTA LYNX DAY in the State of Minnesota.
