Governor Urges Legislature to Take Action on Critical Priorities, Work Together To Achieve a Productive Conclusion to Session

5/7/2018 7:03:10 PM

Governor Dayton urges lawmakers to deliver Emergency School Aid, solutions for state’s opioid crisis, elder abuse, school safety and gun violence, pensions, and more

Governor has repeatedly urged Legislators to send him bills he can sign, as he will not call a Special Legislative Session if they do not complete their work

With two weeks remaining, the Dayton Administration has sent Legislators 270 pages of input and concerns with legislation being considered this Session

ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton today sent a letter to Legislative Leaders, urging them to take action on critical priorities facing the people of Minnesota, including: Emergency School Aid for every Minnesota school district; addressing our state’s opioid crisis; protecting elderly and vulnerable Minnesotans from abuse and neglect; keeping students safe from gun violence; stabilizing pensions; reforming our state’s sexual harassment laws; investing in infrastructure; and cutting taxes for over 2 million Minnesotans. Governor Dayton’s letter also reiterated parameters for a successful and timely conclusion to the Legislative Session, and urged lawmakers to review 270 pages of letters provided by his Administration outlining feedback and concerns about legislation being considered this Session.

“We still have the opportunity to give our citizens the collaborative and productive ending to this Legislative Session that they deserve,” writes Governor Dayton in his letter. “Minnesotans expect us to work together, resolve our differences, and do what is best for our state. We have 14 days to show them that we are capable of providing this leadership. My commissioners, staff, and I are available at all times to work with you and achieve this essential outcome.”

In 270 pages of letters delivered to legislators this session by Governor Dayton and his Commissioners, the Dayton Administration has consistently been clear about its concerns with legislation being considered this session. Governor Dayton has repeatedly urged lawmakers to send him bills that he can sign, as he will not call a special session if Legislators are unable to complete their work before the constitutionally-mandated adjournment date of May 21, 2018 – just two weeks away.
