Statement from Governor Dayton on the Separation of Immigrant Families on the United States’ Southern Border

6/19/2018 3:33:55 PM

ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Governor Mark Dayton issued the following statement urging President Donald Trump to immediately end federal immigration policies that separate children from their families on the U.S.-Mexico border. Governor Dayton also said today that he will refuse to deploy National Guard personnel, equipment, or other resources to assist with immigration enforcement until the Trump Administration ends family separation policies.

“Minnesota has not been asked to send any National Guard personnel, equipment, or other resources to assist with immigration enforcement on our country's southern border. I will refuse to provide any such aid, until the Trump Administration stops its immoral and un-American ripping apart of immigrant families.

“I join U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, Members of our Congressional Delegation, Governors across our country, and the American people in calling on President Trump – in the strongest possible terms – to end immediately this cruel family separation policy. We must not allow innocent children to suffer any further.”
