Commission on Judicial Selection Recommends First Judicial District Candidates to Governor Dayton

The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today it is recommending three candidates to Governor Mark Dayton for consideration to fill the current vacancy in Minnesota's First Judicial District. This vacancy was created upon the retirement of the Honorable Edward I. Lynch. This district court judgeship will be chambered at Le Center in Le Sueur County in the First Judicial District.

Robert Bauer: Mr. Bauer is a shareholder at Dougherty, Molenda, Solfest, Hills and Bauer P.A., where he is a general practitioner with an emphasis in real estate, civil litigation and municipal law. He is also a Certified Real Property Specialist with the Minnesota State Bar Association and is a qualified neutral. Mr. Bauer is a member of the Apple Valley Chamber of Commerce and a youth basketball coach for Shakopee Area Catholic School.

Timothy Looby: Mr. Looby is a partner at Melchert Hubert Sjodin, P.L.L.P., where he practices in family law, including marriage dissolutions, child custody and spousal maintenance. Previously, his practice has also consisted of wills, real estate, business, employment, criminal and municipal law. Mr. Looby is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a volunteer attorney with Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, and a board member of the Community Foundation for Carver County.

Mark Vandelist: Mr. Vandelist is a trial attorney and partner at Vandelist and Vandelist, P.A., where he primarily handles personal injury cases and provides pro bono services in criminal areas. He previously served as a trial attorney at Heuer and Vandelist, P.A., and Cousineau McGuire Chartered. Mr. Vandelist is a certified civil trial specialist, serves as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association, and volunteers as coach for Lakeville North High School Mock Trial.

Minnesota's First Judicial District consists of Carver, Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, McLeod, Scott and Sibley Counties.

An announcement of the appointment will be made following an interview process over the next few weeks.
