12/21/2017 5:21:35 PM

ST. PAUL, MN – In honor and remembrance of Fire Captain Jeffrey Allen Vollmer, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Captain Vollmer was a second generation firefighter and a twelve-year veteran of the Mayer Fire Department. He was a graduate of Ortonville High School and the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. In addition to serving as a firefighter, Captain Vollmer was employed as a construction journeyman and had operated his own business.

Captain Vollmer tragically and suddenly passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, after a firefighter training session. He is survived by his wife, Emily; daughters, Anika and Kennedi; parents, Art and Arlene; sister, Jaclyn; grandmother, Violet Vollmer; and step-brothers, Travis and Christian May.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Freshwater Community Church in Waconia. Visitation continues on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service at Mayer Lutheran High School.

At the direction of the Governor, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota first responders fallen in the line of duty, on the day of interment. A copy of Governor Dayton’s proclamation, ordering flags to be flown at half-staff across our state, can be found here.
