9/8/2015 10:14:43 AM

In honor and remembrance of St. Paul Firefighter Shane Clifton, who died suddenly from a heart attack while on duty at St. Paul Fire Station #14 on August 31, 2015, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Shane Clifton was born on October 6, 1976, and joined the Saint Paul Fire Department on October 1, 2007. He served as a Paramedic Firefighter, and previously worked for Allina EMS Transportation and Unity Hospital in Fridley. Clifton served for 9 years in the United States Navy, with deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. Clifton is survived by his mother and father, and by his two daughters.

The State of Minnesota recognizes Firefighter Shane Clifton for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow citizens of Minnesota with its deepest gratitude, and all thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and entire community.

A celebration of Shane Clifton's life will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Gustavus Adolphus Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, followed by interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

At the direction of the Governor, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota firefighters killed in the line of duty, on the day of interment.
