State of Minnesota Named One of America’s Best Large Employers

5/4/2018 4:53:11 PM

ST. PAUL, MN – The State of Minnesota has been named one of America’s Best Large Employers for 2018 in a new analysis from Forbes Magazine.

“This new ranking highlights our efforts to ensure that the State of Minnesota is a welcoming and rewarding career environment for all,” said Governor Mark Dayton. “I encourage all Minnesotans to consider a career in public service, working with us to build a better Minnesota.”

The Forbes rankings are based on anonymous surveys of 30,000 working Americans. Participants were asked to rate how likely they are to recommend their employer to others, and to nominate employers other than their own. The final list ranks the 500 top-scoring large employers in America. Other Minnesota employers included on the list include Mayo Clinic, General Mills, 3M, the University of Minnesota, Land O’Lakes, Medtronic, Xcel Energy, Cargill, Polaris Industries, and Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

Governor Dayton has worked hard to ensure state government better reflects the rich diversity of Minnesota, and is accessible to all Minnesotans. Since Governor Dayton took office in 2011, the share of state employees who are people of color has increased from 8 percent to 12 percent. In 2017, 20 percent of new hires by the state were people of color. Minnesota is expected to face a workforce shortage of more than 100,000 workers by 2020. To ensure continued economic growth and shared prosperity, it is critical that the state’s entire workforce have access to and be prepared for the jobs being created by Minnesota businesses.

The State of Minnesota offers a wide-range of opportunities and careers across more than 100 state agencies, boards, commissions, colleges, and universities across the state. Careers with the State of Minnesota include everything from accounting to zoology. To learn more about working with the State of Minnesota, visit the Minnesota Careers website.
