Governor Dayton Declares "Mick Tingelhoff Day" in Minnesota

Governor honors Hall of Fame football player Mick Tingelhoff for greatness on and off the field

ST. PAUL, MN - Governor Mark Dayton has declared Sunday, August 9, 2015 to be "/governor/assets/mick_tingelhoff_day.pdf_tcm1055-93308.pdfMick Tingelhoff Day" in Minnesota, honoring the lifetime achievements of one of the Minnesota Vikings' most accomplished players.
 
Mick Tingelhoff, who was inducted this weekend into the NFL Hall of Fame, was Minnesota Vikings center from 1962 until 1978 - never missing a game in seventeen seasons. Thirty-seven years after completing his career with the Vikings, Tingelhoff's accomplishments on and off the field will be enshrined forever in the Hall of Fame, and cherished in the hearts and memories of Minnesota sports fans for years to come.
 
"Mick Tingelhoff is a Minnesota sports legend," said Governor Dayton. "He is known by his family, teammates, and fans as a man of great integrity. I congratulate Mick for his many extraordinary achievements, both on and off the field."
 
For 17 years, Mick Tingelhoff was a star player for the Minnesota Vikings. During his accomplished career in the NFL, Tingelhoff helped win the 1969 NFL Championship, won three NFC Championships, and played in six Pro Bowls. Additionally, he was a recipient of the Gerald R. Ford Legends Award for his many accomplishments on the field, and his contributions to his community off the field.
 
Born in Lexington, Nebraska in 1940, Mick Tingelhoff attended the University of Nebraska, where he played football. During his collegiate career, Tingelhoff earned three letters, co-captained the 1961 team, and played in both the Senior Bowl and the All American Bowl. In 1980, he was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
