ST. PAUL, MN - Commemorating the start of the Minnesota State Fair, Governor Mark Dayton has declared Thursday, August 27, 2015 to be "The Great Minnesota Get Together" Day. The State Fair annually attracts more than 1.7 million visitors from across the state and surrounding region. One of the most highly attended fairs in the United States; the Minnesota State Fair is legendary for its exhibits, animals, and fun food options.

"The Minnesota State Fair has been a great tradition for 156 years," said Governor Dayton. "Every year, millions of Minnesotans come together to celebrate our state and enjoy some of the best we have to offer. You will probably find me in the chocolate malt line at the Dairy Barn!"

"Archie and I have been taking our sons, Sam and Mason, to the State Fair for over 25 years. We used to load them up in the red wagon and pull them around to see the sights. The kids grew up, but we still have a family tradition of going together in the first day," said Lt. Governor Tina Smith. "Every day is a great day at the fair. I'll see you there!"

"Our thanks to Governor Dayton for his proclamation, and for his very kind words," said State Fair General Manager Jerry Hammer. "For generations of Minnesotans, the fair has been a beloved institution of which we can all be proud. As we welcome fairgoers from here at home, from throughout the U.S. and from around the world, we promise to present the best ever celebration of all that's good about our great state."

Home to classic attractions such as the Skyride, Giant Slide, and All-You-Can-Drink Milk stand, the Great Minnesota Get Together is widely acknowledged to be the best state fair in the country.
