ST. PAUL, MN – This morning, the Minnesota Department of Health
reported that Minnesota’s uninsured rate rose from 4.3 percent in 2015 to 6.3 percent in 2017, leaving approximately 349,000 Minnesotans without coverage. Since the last time this survey was conducted in 2015, about 116,000 fewer Minnesotans have health insurance. The following is a statement from Governor Mark Dayton.
“This report shows that the efforts by a Republican Congress and the Trump Administration to undermine President Obama's goal of universal health care coverage are having their destructive effects. 116,000 more Minnesotans are now living without the health care they and their families need.
“I again urge the Legislature to join me in finding ways that all Minnesotans can better afford good health care, which is essential to our high quality of life, from healthy families to a strong workforce.”
