Governor Mark Dayton Proclaims “X Games Day” in Minnesota

ST. PAUL, MN – Marking the first time the X Games will be hosted in Minnesota, Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed Thursday, July 13, 2017 to be “X Games Day” in Minnesota. The proclamation honors Minnesota’s vibrant extreme sports community and celebrates all the upcoming X Games action July 13-16, 2017. The competition is expected to attract approximately 100,000 people. You can read the Governor’s full proclamation here.
 
“Minnesotans enjoy extreme sports from snowmobiling and snowboarding in the winter to skateboarding and BMX biking in the summer,” said Governor Dayton. “I am proud to proclaim it ‘X Games Day’ as Minnesota hosts four action-packed days of extreme sports. Best of luck to all the competitors!”
 
Lt. Governor Tina Smith will join athletes and fans in Minneapolis on Thursday evening to present the proclamation during for the X Games’ opening ceremonies.
 
“We are excited to welcome the X Games to Minnesota and showcase our state’s thriving action sports communities,” said Lt. Governor Smith. “Best of luck to the athletes, especially Minnesota’s own skateboard star, Alec Majerus. Have a great competition.”
 
Presented by ESPN, this year’s 22nd annual Summer X Games will feature action sports competitions, including skateboarding, BMX and motocross, and will showcase a diverse set of musical performances throughout the four days. Headlining the Kickoff Party on Thursday, July 13, 2017, Minneapolis’ own Rhymesayers Entertainment will be joined by other artists at the city’s iconic First Avenue venue. Minneapolis also is set to host the Summer X Games again next summer.
