August 02, 2011

Lieutenant Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon was re-elected to serve on the leadership committee of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA). Prettner Solon will serve as the at large member from the Midwest on the NLGA Executive Committee.

"As a NLGA leader, Lieutenant Governor Prettner Solon will work with her peers across the nation to find and foster multi-state and regional solutions to problems, said NLGA Chair Nebraska Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy. Through NLGA, the nation's lieutenant governors discuss shared concerns and seek to influence national dialogue.

"It is an honor to be named to a leadership position," said Lt. Governor Prettner Solon. "The challenges facing Minnesota are also facing state governments across the country. I am confident that the ideas shared and partnerships forged between us will result in real, tangible benefits to the people we serve."

The committee meets about three times a year and is responsible to chart the course of issues and work to be pursued by the nation's second-highest state and territorial officeholders. In addition to its specific duties, the committee will also address issues of mutual concern to all members. The position is a one-year term with Lt. Governor Prettner Solon serving until July of 2012.

Lt. Governor Prettner Solon's career in public service began in 1987 when she was elected to the Duluth City Council. She went on to serve as the Council's Vice President four times, and was elected as the Council President in 1992 and again in 1996. She served as Deputy Mayor from 1992 to 2000. In 2002 she was elected to the Minnesota State Senate where she was a leader in health care and energy policy. She served in the Senate until her election as Lt. Governor. She has both undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology.

NLGA is a bi-partisan organization promoting regional collaborations and problem solving for almost 50-years. Visit www.nlga.us for more information.
