Clarification on the $101 million error in the Omnibus Tax bill

6/2/2016 3:02:17 PM

ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton just received a letter from Speaker of the House Kurt Daudt, in response to the Governor’s letter this morning regarding the $101 million error in the Omnibus Tax bill passed in the final hours of the 2016 Legislative Session. The following is a statement from Matt Swenson, press secretary and senior communications advisor.

“Minnesota’s Commissioners of Revenue and Management and Budget have made it clear that this $101 million error in the Omnibus Tax bill cannot be corrected with a simple letter; it must be, and can only be, corrected by legislative action.

“Governor Dayton has made two things emphatically clear: 1) he will not sign an Omnibus Tax bill that includes a $101 million error; and 2) he will not call the Legislature into Special Session until all of his conditions, which he outlined yesterday, are met.

“There is no reason that legislative leaders cannot agree to a Special Session. The requirements the Governor has laid out – including investments in higher education, public safety, and job creation – are critically important for a better Minnesota. The solution is as easy as 1-2-3: agree to these investments, set a date for special session, and pass legislation that will bring the 2016 Legislative Session to a proper conclusion.”
