Governor Dayton visits North Minneapolis, orders assistance for displaced citizens

5/23/2011 10:14:43 AM

May 23, 2011

Today, Governor Dayton signed Emergency Executive Order 11-16 to provide assistance for displaced citizens, in the wake of the severe weather that caused major damage in Minneapolis on May 22, 2011. Over 250 citizens have been displaced by the damage to homes, power outages and natural gas leaks caused by the storm, and the city of Minneapolis has requested the use of the National Guard Armory to provide shelter for those citizens. Governor Dayton has ordered the Adjutant General of Minnesota to order to state active duty any personnel and equipment of the Minnesota National Guard that are required to provide assistance in responding to the emergency and in providing emergency relief services. The Emergency Executive Order is effective immediately, and will remain in effect until the conclusion of the emergency.

Governor Dayton saw first-hand some of the damage caused by the storm this morning when he visited North Minneapolis with Mayor R.T. Rybak, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Congressman Keith Ellison, and other state and local officials.
