Commission on Judicial Selection Recommends Sixth Judicial District Candidates

ST. PAUL, MN – The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today it is recommending three candidates for consideration to fill a vacancy in Minnesota’s Sixth Judicial District. This vacancy will occur upon the retirement of the Honorable Mark A. Munger, and will be chambered at Carlton in Carlton County.
 
Kevin Cornwell: Mr. Cornwell is a solo practitioner at the Law Office of Kevin C. Cornwell, where he represents clients in criminal and family law cases. Additionally, he serves as a part-time assistant public defender at the Sixth Judicial District Public Defender’s Office. Previously, he was an associate attorney at Stauber and Lien, an adjunct professor at St. Scholastica, and a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert V. Campbell, Sixth Judicial District Court Judge. Mr. Cornwell has served as a host parent for AFS Intercultural Program, a Board Member for the Duluth Girls Hockey Association, a youth sports coach, and an attorney mock trial coach.
 
Terri Port Wright: Ms. Port Wright is a solo practitioner at the Port Wright Law Office, where she practices in the areas of family law, criminal defense, child protection, and probate work. Previously, she was an attorney in the Sixth Judicial District Public Defender’s Office, the Executive Director of the Sugarloaf Interpretive Center Association, and the Staff Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety for Continental Airlines. Ms. Port Wright is member of the Carlton County Children’s Justice Initiative Committee, a parent attorney representative on the St. Louis County Indian Child Welfare Act Collaborative Committee, and a member of Minnesota Women Lawyers.
 
Rebekka Stumme: Ms. Stumme is an assistant county attorney in the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office, where she serves as a senior attorney and is responsible for adult felony prosecution in the criminal division. Previously, she was an assistant public defender at the Sixth Judicial District Public Defender’s Office, a civil litigation attorney at Downs, Reyelts and Bateman, Ltd., and a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Mark A. Munger, Sixth Judicial District Court Judge. Ms. Stumme is the First Witness Child Abuse Resource Center Board President and Chair of the education Committee at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ.
 
Minnesota’s Sixth Judicial District consists of Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis Counties.
