Governor Dayton Announces Upcoming Vacancy on Minnesota Court of Appeals

ST. PAUL, MN - Today, Governor Mark Dayton announced the commencement of a process to fill an upcoming at-large vacancy on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. This vacancy will occur upon the retirement of the Honorable John P. Smith, effective February 2, 2016.

Governor Dayton has asked the Commission on Judicial Selection to aid in the review and selection process for this vacancy. The at-large members of the Commission will consider applicants and offer recommendations to Governor Dayton. The Commission on Judicial Selection and Governor Dayton are committed to seeking out individuals who possess great integrity, extensive legal knowledge, broad experience, and a commitment to fairness.
 
The application process is now open for this vacancy. Application materials are due by close of business, Thursday, November 5, 2015. Those who recently applied for the previous at-large vacancy, created upon Judge Hudson's appointment to the Minnesota Supreme Court, will be considered applicants for this second vacancy.
