Governor Dayton Announces Cabinet

12/10/2014 10:14:43 AM

ST. PAUL, MN - Today, Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter announced he has accepted a new position outside the Administration. Following this news, Governor Dayton announced that Minnesota Department of Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans has been chosen to lead the agency. Revenue Deputy Commissioner Cynthia Bauerly will join Governor Dayton's cabinet as Commissioner of Revenue.

"During the past four years, Commissioner Myron Frans has shown his superb ability to manage our State's finances, as Commissioner of Revenue," said Governor Dayton. "He will continue his outstanding service, as Commissioner of Minnesota Management and Budget. I look forward to continuing to work with him to build an even better Minnesota."

"I am pleased to appoint Ms. Cynthia Bauerly as the new Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Revenue" said Governor Dayton. "Her previous experiences as a Deputy Commissioner at both Revenue and the Department of Employment and Economic Development and in federal law, management and policy, have prepared her well to assume these very important responsibilities."

Governor Dayton thanked Commissioner Schowalter for his service to the state.

"Commissioner Jim Schowalter brought tremendous fiscal expertise and a deep commitment to excellent public service to Minnesota Management and Budget during the past four years," said Governor Dayton. "I have relied heavily on his wise counsel, and the entire State of Minnesota has benefitted greatly from his outstanding service. I wish him the very best in his future endeavors."

"Serving as Commissioner for the last four years has been the privilege of a lifetime. Public service is always special, but working for Governor Dayton alongside my talented colleagues at Minnesota Management and Budget has been an incredible experience for which I will always be grateful," said Commissioner Jim Schowalter.

Commissioner Schowalter has served the State of Minnesota for more than 20 years, earning a reputation as a respected, non-partisan voice on budget issues. Before being named Commissioner in 2011, Schowalter served as Assistant Commissioner and State Budget Director. After assuming that position in 2004, he led the budget process for the State of Minnesota for six years. Prior to joining Minnesota Management and Budget, Jim previously worked as Regional Economist at the Boston office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and as Budget Officer at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.
