Governor Dayton orders flags flown at half-staff in honor of Linda Scheid

6/27/2011 10:14:43 AM

June 27, 2011

In honor and remembrance of Minnesota State Senator Linda Scheid, Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed Tuesday, June 28, 2011 "Linda Scheid Day" and has ordered all U.S. flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.

Linda Scheid served as a Minnesota State Representative from 1977 to 1979 and from 1983 to 1991, and as a Minnesota State Senator from 1997 to 2011. During her distinguished legislative career, Senator Scheid was a leader on many issues, including consumer protection, education equity, campaign finance reform, organ donation, tax fairness, business regulatory reform, economic development, and health care reform-most notably ensuring that oral chemotherapy drugs are affordable and accessible. Her commitment to public service was demonstrated throughout her life, from her service as a Peace Corps volunteer, community advocate, parks and recreation worker, substitute teacher and lawmaker.

Senator Scheid will be honored at a public memorial service tomorrow, June 28, 2011, in Brooklyn Park; Governor Dayton is planning to attend the service.
