Governor Dayton Appoints Robert Doty as Executive Director of the Minnesota State Lottery

ST. PAUL – Governor Mark Dayton today appointed Robert Doty to serve as Executive Director of the Minnesota State Lottery. Mr. Doty brings more than three decades of financial and organizational management experience to the Lottery. Mr. Doty will succeed Michael Vekich, who has served as Interim Executive Director since February 2016. Mr. Doty will begin as Executive Director at the Minnesota State Lottery on May 1, 2017.
 
“Robert Doty’s extensive management experience will serve well the Minnesota State Lottery and the people of Minnesota,” said Governor Dayton. “I appreciate Mr. Doty’s strong commitment to ensuring that the Lottery continues its high standards of sound financial management and operational integrity. I also want to express my deep appreciation to Michael Vekich for his tremendous service as Interim Executive Director of the Minnesota Lottery.”
 
“I am excited and honored to be appointed by Governor Dayton to this important role,” said Mr. Doty. “I truly believe that my skills and passion for fiscal accountability and inclusive leadership will allow me to work together with my team and bring positive results for the lottery and the State of Minnesota.”
 
Previously, Mr. Doty served as the Chief Financial and Operations Officer at Harvest Network of Schools. In this role since 2015, Mr. Doty directed the finances and operations for a $23 million charter management organization that managed all administrative functions for three separate charter schools. Previously, he served as Chief Financial and Operations Officer for Minneapolis Public Schools, where he increased the district’s bond credit rating and achieved consecutive, structurally balanced budgets. Mr. Doty has also held senior leadership positions at DFA Financial Services LLC, and Dunwoody College of Technology. Mr. Doty holds Bachelors of Science and Masters of Business Administration degrees from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management.
 
About the Minnesota State Lottery
The Minnesota State Lottery generated $144.7 million for State of Minnesota programs in FY16. A portion of every lottery dollar helps to preserve, restore, protect and enhance Minnesota’s environment. Projects that benefit Minnesota have received lottery dollars in each of Minnesota’s 87 counties since the Lottery’s inception. Lottery dollars also support state services that include public education, local government assistance and public safety through the state’s General Fund.
