Governor Mark Dayton signs bill into law honoring fallen soldier

ST. PAUL, MN - On Wednesday, Governor Mark Dayton signed a bill into law designating the Wabasha Bridge over the Mississippi River on marked Trunk Highway 60, be named "Michael Duane Clickner Memorial Bridge." Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner was a lifelong resident of Wabasha, Minnesota, and a 1967 graduate of Wabasha High School. He was killed in action on April 11, 1970, in the Binh Dinh Province of Vietnam. He was 21 years old.

"Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner served our state and nation with great courage," said Governor Mark Dayton. "This bridge will always honor him and his heroism."

The legislation (SF2154/HF2214) was authored by Representative Mary Sawatzky and Senator Roger Reinert.

About Michael Duane Clickner
Sergeant Michael Duane Clickner was a lifelong resident of Minnesota, and a 1967 graduate of Wabasha High School. Clickner enlisted in the United States Army in 1968, and trained with the Special Forces. His deployment took him to Vietnam as a member of Company A, 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry.

Clickner gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and died a hero on Saturday, April 11, 1970, in the Binh Dinh Province of Vietnam, when a land mine exploded.
