ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton today issued
Executive Order 17-07, directing the Minnesota National Guard to assist with Hurricane Irma response and relief efforts. Governor Dayton’s Executive Order approves a request for assistance from the Minnesota National Guard through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC).
“I thank Major General Nash for his leadership, and the brave Minnesota National Guard soldiers who will provide assistance in Hurricane Irma response and relief efforts,” said Governor Dayton. “I encourage all Minnesotans who are able to contribute to qualified relief efforts. Minnesota stands ready to assist those affected by Hurricane Irma in any way we are able.”
Hurricane Irma is forecasted to make landfall today, endangering life and property in areas of the Southeastern United States. These areas are expected to be severely impacted by damaging wind and flooding for an unknown period of time. Governor Dayton’s Executive Order covers all states potentially impacted by this major hurricane, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Alabama.
Yesterday, Governor Dayton also approved an EMAC request for a team of 16 Minnesota emergency management professionals to assist with Hurricane Irma response and relief in Florida. For more information on this team of Minnesotans assisting with Hurricane Irma,

About EMAC
EMAC is a mutual aid agreement between all 50 states. A requesting state asks for resources (people, equipment, etc.) based on their needs. Agencies in other states with those resources are able to respond to a request, but there is no obligation to participate. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Homeland Security and Emergency Management division coordinates the state’s EMAC requests.
