Statement from Lt. Governor Tina Smith on Minnesota Medical Manufacturing Partnership

7/8/2015 10:14:43 AM

ST. PAUL, MN - Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced that Minnesota's Medical Manufacturing Partnership is one of 12 communities nationwide now eligible for federal aid and support to accelerate manufacturing growth and create jobs.

The Obama Administration's Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP) is designed to support partnerships like Minnesota's by supporting the development of long-term economic development strategies. The twelve designated Manufacturing Communities, including Minnesota's Medical Manufacturing Partnership, will now receive coordinated support for their strategies from eleven federal agencies with more than $1 billion available in federal economic development assistance.

The following is a statement from Lt. Governor Tina Smith regarding today's announcement.

"This designation by the U.S. Department of Commerce highlights Minnesota as a national leader in medical manufacturing. As a Manufacturing Community, we will now be eligible for federal funding and support to create jobs, enhance innovation, and grow our state's economy. I applaud the efforts of the many partners who helped make this designation possible; and whose continued support will be essential to the further expansion of medical manufacturing and innovation in Minnesota."

The Minnesota Medical Manufacturing Partnership was selected by an interagency panel, based on the strength of its economic development plan, the potential for impact in the community, and the depths of the partnership across the public and private sectors to carry out the plans.
