ST. PAUL, MN – Today, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management began the process of renewing federal mineral leases for Twin Metals Minnesota near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The following is a statement from Governor Mark Dayton.
“Driven by greed and willful ignorance, the Trump Administration has consistently demonstrated an insatiable appetite for selling out to large corporate interests, at the expense of our environment. Yet again, they have pulled out all the stops to kowtow to the financial interests of a large Chilean corporation with a terrible environmental record. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a priceless, irreplaceable environmental asset for our State and Nation that must be protected. Endangering its pristine waters and natural wonders for the sake of foreign corporate profits is shameful and wrong.”
