Governor Dayton to advise federal government on matters related to National Guard, civil support missions

Governor Dayton was first appointed to the Council of Governors in 2015

ST. PAUL, MN – The White House announced today that President Donald J. Trump intends to reappoint Governor Mark Dayton to the Council of Governors, to serve a two-year term. The Council of Governors, created by Congress in 2007, is a bipartisan forum to advise the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Homeland Security, and the White House Homeland Security Council on matters related to the National Guard and civil support missions.

"I am very honored to be reappointed to the Council of Governors,” said Governor Dayton, who serves as Commander in Chief of the Minnesota National Guard. “The Council serves as the primary link between the nation's Governors and the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security. I will use this post to continue working for the best interests of the heroic members of the Minnesota National Guard.”

Governor Dayton was previously appointed to serve a two-year term on the Council of Governors in 2015.

“Governor Dayton's reappointment to the Council of Governors is good news for Minnesota,” said Major General Richard Nash, Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard. “Governor Dayton has been a strong voice on the Council of Governors. His experience as commander-in-chief of the Minnesota National Guard, coupled with his policy expertise as a previous member of the Senate Armed Services Committee gives our state the means to advocate for the needs of our service members and their families, and to support the mission and objectives of the Minnesota National Guard.”
