Flags to be flown at half-staff in observance of the 12-year anniversary of 9/11 attacks

ST. PAUL, MN - In observance of the twelfth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Individuals, businesses and other organizations are also encouraged to lower their flags in observance of the anniversary on Wednesday, September 11, 2013.

"Tomorrow, we remember the innocent victims who lost their lives in the horrific acts of terror on 9/11," said Governor Dayton. "We also remember the first responders and others who sacrificed themselves so that others might live. As we observe this solemn anniversary, I join with all Minnesotans in honoring the memory of the victims and their families."

The Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States, has called upon the people of the United States to participate in community service in honor of those our Nation lost; to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services; and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46am Eastern Daylight Time, or 7:46am Central Standard Time, to honor the innocent victims who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Governor Dayton has proclaimed Patriot Day and A Day of Service and Remembrance in the State of Minnesota, as a mark of respect for the victims of this tragedy. In solidarity with the rest of the nation, Governor Dayton encourages all Minnesotans to observe the National Moment of Silence.
