ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton and MNsure CEO Allison O’Toole today released new numbers showing that more than 50,000 Minnesotans have already signed up during this open enrollment period to receive tax credits for healthcare next year. These tax credits average over $7,200 per year for Minnesota families, and are only available through MNsure. Overall more than 100,000 Minnesotans have enrolled in private health care coverage through MNsure for 2018, so far.
“These federal tax credits make heath care more affordable for thousands of Minnesota families, saving the average household more than $7,200,” said Governor Dayton. “Minnesotans who still need to buy health coverage for the coming year should contact MNsure right away, to find out how much they can save on high-quality healthcare for themselves and their families.”
Minnesota’s open enrollment period began on November 1 of this year. Minnesotans who still need to shop for health coverage on the individual market can get a quick estimate of the amount of financial help available to them at
www.mnsure.org. MNsure staff are available online and in-person to help Minnesotans identify the best available private health insurance options for themselves and their family, and to help ensure Minnesotans receive all the tax credits they qualify for. Minnesota’s open enrollment period runs until January 14, 2018.
“Ninety-six percent of Minnesotans currently have health insurance, which is the second highest among the states,” said Allison O’Toole. “We want to protect even more Minnesotans from health crises and huge medical bills, so it’s important that consumers know this financial help is available through MNsure.”
MNsure serves more than 50 percent of the Minnesotans who buy their health insurance on the individual market, which includes those who don’t get health insurance through their employer or a program like Medicare, Medicaid, or MinnesotaCare. MNsure also helps make health insurance more affordable to Minnesotans. Shopping and enrolling though MNsure is the only way Minnesotans can get refundable federal premium tax credits to instantly reduce their premium costs. Tax credits are available to individuals earning up to $48,240 per year and a family of four earning up to $98,400 per year.
