Governor Mark Dayton signs bill into law honoring fallen Maplewood Police Sergeant

ST. PAUL, MN - Today, Governor Mark Dayton signed a bill into law designating Trunk Highway 36 in Maplewood to be named "Sergeant Joseph Bergeron Memorial Highway." Sergeant Bergeron was a veteran officer of the Maplewood Police Department, with 26 years of service. Sergeant Bergeron was shot and killed on May 1, 2010 while responding to a carjacking.
 
The legislation (Chapter 46, SF 1854) was authored by Representative Leon Lillie and Senator Charles W. Wiger.
 
About Sergeant Joseph Bergeron
On May 1, 2010, Sergeant Bergeron was shot and killed while attempting to question two men in connection with a carjacking incident. Sergeant Joseph Bergeron served honorably with the Maplewood Police Department for 26 years. He is survived by his wife and twin daughters.
