Commission on Judicial Selection Recommends Third Judicial District Candidates to Governor Dayton

ST. PAUL, MN - The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today it is recommending three candidates to Governor Mark Dayton for consideration to fill the current vacancy in Minnesota's Third Judicial District. This vacancy was created upon the retirement of the Honorable James A. Fabian, and will be chambered at Caledonia in Houston County.

Brett A. Corson: Mr. Corson serves as the Fillmore County Attorney, where he handles a full spectrum of criminal and civil cases on behalf of the county and advises the County Commissioners and various County Departments. He also serves as a Judge Advocate Officer in the United States Army, and previously was the owner of Corson Law Offices and an Assistant Public Defender. Mr. Corson was President of the Wykoff Lions Club, a Director and coach of Wykoff Youth Fastpitch Softball, and an organizer with the Cancer Telethon Breakfast.
 
Scott K. Springer: Mr. Springer serves as the President of Springer and Gumbel, PA, where he maintains a broad caseload, including family, civil, municipal, and criminal law. He also serves as the City Attorney for the cities of Ostrander, Fountain, Spring Valley, and Lewiston and as the City Prosecutor for Chatfield, and previously was an attorney at Adams, Rizzi and Sween, PA. Mr. Springer is a member of the DNR's Wildlife Oversight and Budget Oversight Committees and the Vice President of the City of Preston Economic Development Authority.
 
Carmaine M. Sturino: Ms. Sturino serves as an Assistant Public Defender in the Third Judicial District, where she represents the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for Public Defense and maintains a caseload consisting primarily of juvenile and adult cases. Previously, Ms. Sturino was a solo practitioner and an Assistant Winona County Attorney. Ms. Sturino is the Secretary of the Winona County Bar Association, a member of the Juvenile Justice Coalition, and a former adjunct professor at Winona State University, St. Mary's University, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
 
Minnesota's Third Judicial District consists of Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona Counties.
 
An announcement of the appointment will be made following an interview process over the next few weeks.
